4th - 10th August
Irvine, North Ayrshire
Handel’s Acis & Galatea
We are looking for chorus members of all voice types and all levels of experience to be involved in an exciting and unique production of the opera Acts and Galatea. The opera will incorporate a new Scottish Gaelic translation by Joy Dunlop. The course will culminate with a world premier staged production at The Townhouse in Irvine on the 10th of August 2019.
Rehearsals and sessions will be held at The Townhouse, Irvine between the 4th and 10th of August with chorus rehearsals taking place in the evenings and weekends.
This is a unique opportunity to learn from professional musicians and singers on vocal and dramatic interpretation of opera. We also welcome Joy Dunlop who will be coaching the Gaelic. Some other additions to this years course include a movement director and chorus mentors. The production will be fully staged, costumed and accompanied by piano.
The Scots Opera Project is the brainchild of David Douglas, who had the idea to produce a new Scots versions of operas in Ayrshire incorporating a mixture of community and professional singers, who learn a piece over six days in the form of a course. Opera is often perceived as a elitist art form while the Scots language is often looked down upon. These productions treats Scots language with the same care and respect as any other Language. It's a completely new experience for both the cast and audience. 2018 will see the introduction of Gaelic alongside the Scots Language translation, making this a production of Dido & Aeneas as never before.
The cost for the course will be £50 for the entire week, including music rehearsals, vocal technique sessions, singing, acting and movement sessions. This course is guaranteed to be fun and rewarding giving participants a rare opportunity to perform a new and exciting version of Acts and Galatea.
