PAST PRODUCTION

Scots Opera Project 2017

Ayrshire Opera Experience

6th - 12th August

The Harbour Arts Centre

Irvine, North Ayrshire

Mozart's The Magic Flute

We are looking for chorus members of all voice types and all levels of experience to be involved in an exciting and unique production of the opera The Magic Flute by Mozart.  The opera will be translated into Scots Language and will breathe new life into this well-known opera. The course will culminate with a world premier staged production at The Harbour Arts Centre on the 12th of August 2017.

Rehearsals and sessions will be held at The Harbour Arts Centre between the 6th and 12th of August with chorus rehearsals taking place in the evenings and weekends.

This is a unique opportunity to learn from professional musicians and singers on vocal and dramatic interpretation of opera. The production will be fully staged and costumed.

The course will be led by tenor David Douglas, soprano Colleen Nicoll and pianist Andrew Johnston.

Opera in a Scots Language translation is the brainchild of David Douglas, who had the idea to produce new Scots versions of operas in Ayrshire incorporating a mixture of community and professional singers, who learn a piece over six days in the form of a course. Opera is often perceived as an elitist art form while the Scots language is often looked down upon. These productions treat Scots language with the same care and respect as any other Language. It's a completely new experience for both the cast and audience.

The cost for the course will be £50 for the entire week, including music rehearsals, vocal technique sessions, singing, acting and movement sessions. This course is guaranteed to be fun and rewarding giving participants a rare opportunity to perform a new and exciting version of The Magic Flute.

If you would like to be involved in this course, please express your interest by contacting ayrshireopera@gmail.com and let us know your voice type (if known) and any previous experience.
